Description:Paludal plant with articulate rhizome. Leaves rising above water, alternate 3-foliate with elliptical leaflets, on long petioles, leaflets 5-10 x 1.5-3 cm. Inflorescence an erect dense, 3-7 cm long raceme on leafless stem. Flowers white or pink, hairy, 10-14 mm long, on short pedicels.
Comments:Monotypic genus, widespread in northern temperate regions. The leaves are used medicinally to reduce fever and have been eaten as a vegetable.
