Description:Terrestrial plant. Stems annual, 10-50 cm high, in upper part ribs glabrous. Branches obliquely spreading, branch sheath more or less black. The first branch segment is shorter than the stem sheath. Vegetating shoots sporiferous. Sporiferous spikes oblong, acute.
Confuse with:E. arvense
Tax. Comments:We have not always seen the in Europe typical black sheaths of the branches.
