Description:Stems perennial, caespitose, 6-30 cm high, 0.75-2 mm in diameter, branched only in lower most part, numerous, forming tufts. Stems with 4-10 ribs, central and peripheral cavities. Stem vaginae marked with a black band, with 4(6) lanceolate teeth. Sporiferous spikes oval, acute.
Confuse with:scirpoides Michx.
Tax. Comments:The difference to E. scirpoides referring to the teeth of leaf sheath is not clear (compare Flora of Siberia and Grubov 1986) .
