Vom 12.12. bis 14.12.2012 wurde im Rahmen eines Workshops die Kooperation zwischen den Herbaren Halle und Greifswald vertieft und neue Möglichkeiten der Zusammenarbeit auch mit dem Herbar Wien besprochen.

The FloraGREIF project was invited to present the current state of the ‚Digital Key to the Flora of Mongolia‘ at session 7: Data – publishing, linking, using ecological data online at the 42nd Annual Meeting of the Ecological Society of Germany, Austria and Switzerland from 10 to 14 September 2012 at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg.
S. Rilke: „FloraGREIF – From a data repository to an expert system“ (Presentation)
This workshop was organised by Michael Succow Stiftung zum Schutz der Natur from 02.05.2012 – 04.05.2012 in Greifswald. The foundation holds a project in Kazakhstan „The carbon sink potential of Eurasian steppe soils, depending on land use patterns“. FloraGREIF, the Virtual Guide to the Flora of Mongolia, was presented by Prof. Dr. Schnittler and Dr. Rilke. Afterwards, the participants discussed the possibilities of cooperation between the University of Greifswald, the ENU and KAZNU in the frame of a virtual flora of Kazakhstan and the Role of CABNET in this cooperation.

U. Najmi: „Projektbericht FloraGREIF“ (Präsentation)
Anläßlich des erfolgreichen Abschliessens des Forschungsprojekts FloraGREIF stellte Ulrike Najmi die Ziele sowie das erreichte Endergebnis für die Mitarbeiter des URZ Greifswald vor. Die weitere fachliche Gestaltung liegt nun in der Verantwortung von Prof. Dr. Martin Schnittler sowie Susanne Starke (Institut für Botanik und Landschaftsökologie). Das URZ sorgt für die Hochverfügbarkeit des implementierten CMS FloraGREIF sowie für Backup und Archivierung.

Abstract:
FloraGREIF is an Internet-accessible database providing taxonomic, bio-geographical and ecological information on Mongolia flora including texts, high-resolution plant images and an interactive Web geographic information system (GIS). Information is split into the taxon level, related to plant species, and the record level, related to collected plant specimens such as herbarium specimen and images of living species. Both are linked by the name of the respective plant species. FloraGREIF is introduced as a practically applicable tool of ecological and taxonomic research on Central Asia’s vegetation. As an integral component of the Open Source Initiative within the content management system of Germany’s Greifswald University it is expected to be supported on a long-term basis.
